Today sport permeates almost all parts of our lives. It belongs to modern lifesstyle, set in scene as a popular spectacle for the masses or allows to gain elitist prestige. In Germany the triumphal march of sport began more than 100 years ago: Max Liebermann was the first German artist who dealt with this subject in many paintings. The exhibition in the Kunsthalle Bremen investigates Max Liebermann’s approach towards movement and sport and at the same moment sheds light on the history of horse riding, tennis and polo in art.
Next to the presentation of Max Liebermann’s works the exhibition design sheds a light on the beginnings of sport as an expression of fashion and a social phenomen in the 19th and 20th century.
We developed the Kunsthalle’s corporate design in cooperation with the Berlin design studio m23 Fons Hickmann in 2015 and have been working on it side by side ever since.
